Common Heating ProblemsHere, we have compiled a list of six common heating problems. It’s recommended that you do not ignore these problems as, if not addressed immediately, they could lead to costly repairs.

1. Weak pilot light

In a gas-powered heating system, the pilot light must be continuously lit. If the pilot light is not lit, you should call a technician immediately to reignite the light.

Also, you should check the strength of the pilot light. The flame should be bluish and not yellow. A yellowish or weak pilot light is dangerous as it can indicate that the carbon dioxide is leaking inside the home.

While carbon monoxide gas is not flammable, it can prove lethal if inhaled.

2. Ductwork blockage

The ductwork of your central heating system is so extensive that it often winds through your entire house. A blockage in the ductwork can occur from insects, rodents, or other pests. Sometimes dust, mold, and mildew accumulate inside the ductwork.

A professional Comfort Air technician will inspect the ductwork and perform any work necessary to clear ductwork blockage.

3. Improper heating

If you notice that the room does not get adequately warm, it may be because heat is leaking from the ductwork. Also, the radiators may require bleeding to release the trapped air.

Again, our professional technicians can diagnose the problem and perform the required repairs to rectify the problem.

4. Malfunctioning thermostat

The thermostat can sometimes malfunction, meaning that the central heating system does not properly warm the room. A malfunctioning thermostat may also result in a misreading of the actual temperature inside your home.

You need to call an experienced HVAC technician to recalibrate the thermostat for you. If the thermostat cannot be repaired, the technician will replace it with a new one to resolve the problem.

5. Timer problems

A faulty timer is another common heating issue. The timer can reset itself due to many reasons, including a power spike. Sometimes, the timer stops working altogether. A professional technician can diagnose the problem and take actions to resolve the issue. If needed, the technician can replace the timer using specialized equipment.

6. Creaking noises

Your heating system sometimes makes creaking noises. This is usually caused due to the heating up of the pipes that are tightly fitted to the walls or floors. In order to resolve the issue, the holes through which the pipes go through should be made slightly bigger.
